I don’t want to turn 40.  It is bringing out the total rebel in me. Like, i want to start smoking, drinking excessively and just being “wilder” than I usually am.  I “feel” as if I should have it all “together” but am not even close. Am I really old enough to be 40 or is this some cosmic mistake? When I was 23, I had an affair with a man who was the age I am getting ready to be (in April). aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.. I didn’t see him as old but exciting and experienced. I dont’ feel experienced or very exciting. I don’t want to be 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turning 40 is just another milestone in your life. Time perhaps to objectively look back at what you have and have not done with your life: nostalgia is not the point. Perhaps it has more to do with where you will be going the day after your birthday for the next thirty years or so, might as well put a positive spin on it, shouldn’t you?

I turned 40 last week, and I agree that it is a milestone of sorts – the same pair of feet has gotten me through all those years of walking and running all over the planet, the same mouth has spoken probably over a billion words, and the same eyes have seen all the wonders of the world so far, from majestic mountains to smiles of children. And though I noticed I’ve become more grumpy all of a sudden, I’ve also become more assured of myself – I made it to this point, and nothing can possibly stop me from moving on. 3 years ago I decided to advance my “retirement” and start my business full time as a photographer. Today, I cannot believe how far I’ve gone and accomplished, nothing I have ever felt when I was employed. As the next days after hitting 4-0 start coming in, it feels more exhilirating and exciting to see and feel what more lies ahead. For now, I’ll start with the new Indiana Jones movie and Iron Man. Maybe I’ll bag my first out of the country wedding shoot soon…who knows? For sure, I’m ready!
