Turning forty is something that can be very difficult for some. It is going to be the age where you are not sure if you are doing something that you are going to be happy with for the rest of your life or not. It may be something that you need to think about but once you know you are in a career that makes you feel good and happy about yourself you will be much happier no matter what you do.
The maturity that we will have is going to be dependant on the life experience and the knowledge that we have. We are usually now going to be at an age that we can be more experienced and use our better judgment for things in life that we think we need or want. We want to be completely confident and able to make our own thoughts and posses the ability to make changes that are going to be better suited for us. In our forties we may realize that life is going to be made of moments. Those moments are going to be treasured and used for what they are and that is important parts of our life’s past that have given us precious memories and the determination to make us who we are today. This can help better us and make us into the person that we want to become. This is also something to get us motivated to change careers so that we can be totally satisfied and happy with our life situation.
You should not bring your past into your future when you are over forty. If you are living a job that makes you feel uncomfortable and depressed then you need to move on. You want to remove the negative moments from your lie and enhance them with the positive. It is only then that you can bring happiness and creativity to your new way of living. Being able to take on challenges and use your better judgment to make certain purposes in your life can be a great and motivating factor in life.

How do you define your work? Do you look to your work to define meaning and joy or just to collect a paycheck? Each carries a different result. Those who seek meaning and joy in their work tend to choose carefully what they do; they know what they do helps determine who they are. For others who work just for the money, there is little expectation of meaning or joyjust as long as the paycheck rolls in. Career vs. vocational passion In my work, I am often asked, What is the difference between Career and Vocational Passion?
Jobs are just an exchange of services for money.
Careers are the same but with a better title. Sadly, for many people, jobs=careers=retirement=death. Can you avoid death? Probably not, but you can get more enjoyment and happiness out of each and every day before you get there.
Vocational passion means having a lifes work that you can do for your whole lifetime without the need to ever retire. Retirement is only for people who dont like what they do! Want a quick path to death? Retire and wait.

Right before turning 30, I got out of a very, very bad abusive marriage with my beautiful son. When I turned 40, I was happy sort of fit and just coasting, but shortly after went into fitness in a HUGE way. What I assumed was a fit life changed when I got heavily into body-building and eating to maintain that life so…by the age of 42, I was in the best “photo” shape of my life.
Then, after a few years of maintaining that lifestyle I went into (in addition to my business life of being an economic-analyst) getting my personal training certification, Spinning Certification and ACE fitness Trainer certification.
I eventually left my day job (the big-bucks job) to start my own in-home personal training business that I’ve been doing for the last four years. I’m happier, poorer, but feel good every night I go to sleep because, unlike my last career, I have the opportunity to make a difference…not matter how small or large…in someone’s life, instead of just impacting the bottom line of a corporation.
